Perth & Kinross Commemorate Royal Jubilee
30 November 2021

A Kinross Cub Scout group was joined by the HM Deputy Lieutenant at the weekend, to dig deep for a greener future.
More than 30 1st Kinross Scouts, Beavers and Cubs were joined by Alex Cairncross, Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant for Perth & Kinross, to plant 60 saplings at Lathro Meadows, a North Scotland development in Milnathort.
Cub Scout leader, Sandy Ogilvie, contacted Persimmon Homes to ask whether land at the Lathro Meadows development could be used for the planting as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a UK-wide tree planting initiative created to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
James MacKay, managing director at North Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support the 1st Kinross Scouts project to plant these special trees at our development.
“Being part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative that commemorates the Queen’s Jubilee is an honour and will provide a sustainable living feature that the entire community can enjoy for many years to come.”
The Silver Birch, Rowan and Wild Cherry planting took place at the weekend (Sunday 28th November) organised by Cub Scout leader Sandy.
Sandy said: “We are extremely proud to play our part in such a huge milestone in history and couldn’t wait to plant the trees provided by The Woodland Trust. Everyone involved had a fantastic day, a memory that I’m sure will stay with them forever and will provide a visual and environmental benefit for the community.”
HM Deputy Lieutenant, Alex Cairncross added: “I was thrilled to join the 1st Kinross Scout Group at the weekend. Everyone including parents worked extremely hard planting the trees in honour of Her Majesty’s 70 years of service to the Nation.
“The overall project will see all counties of the UK invited to create a network of individual or specimen trees, tree avenues, copses and woodlands. Each planting will be dedicated to the QGC by erecting commemorative plaques to mark the occasion and preserve forests for the future, in The Queen’s name.”
The area used for the planting was allocated for Green Space in the planning consent provided by Perth & Kinross Council.
