A Peterborough Forest School scheme has received a £1,000 funding boost from Community Champions.
The Forest School is being situated in the grounds of St Michael’s Church School.
Speaking about the donation, Michael Cruddace from the school explained: “I recently qualified as a Forest School Leader and we are in the process of developing ours here at St Michael’s Church school in Peterborough. Forest Schools are designed to offer a child-centred, inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions.
“Based upon a long term programme, the Forest School principle supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. The aim is to build pupils’ confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences within a natural setting.
“We are grateful to Persimmon Homes for this donation, which is going to be used to get our Forest School off to a good and solid start.”
Nick Phillips, managing director for Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be supporting St Michael’s Church School with this new and exciting initiative.
“Anything designed to help children build their confidence and develop high self esteem has to be worthwhile and we believe this will prove to be a real ‘feather in the cap’ for St Michael’s and look forward to seeing how the programme develops.”
