Plans submitted for new homes in Calderdale

16 October 2023

Plans for 94 new homes in Northowram have been submitted to Calderdale Council by housebuilder Persimmon.

The site at Hall Lane is allocated for housing in Calderdale’s Local Plan, which aims to increase the number and types of houses available to local homebuyers.

Housebuilding has featured prominently at all the main political party conferences with the shortage of new housing high up the political agenda ahead of a general election.

This application would deliver a mix of property types and sizes ranging from 1 through to 4 bed homes.

Built to new building regulations, the new homes will benefit from improved energy efficiency helping reduce energy bills for homeowners.

The housebuilder is working closely with Calderdale Council and engaging with local residents and stakeholders through the application process.

Prior to the submission, Persimmon undertook a Design Review process working with a panel of independent designers and landscape architects.

As part of the plans, a historic tree belt will be reinstated at the north of the site. A Grade II listed wall will also be repaired and enhanced to help preserve the area’s heritage.

Christopher Hull, Managing Director, Persimmon West Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted to have submitted plans for a new development in Northowram.

“This development will provide 94 high quality new homes for local homebuyers, built to a high design in keeping with the local area.

“With the need for new housing rightly high up the political agenda, we’re pleased to be working with Calderdale Council and local stakeholders to deliver homes for first-time buyers, families and downsizers alike.”

Rated as a 5-star housebuilder, Persimmon also operates a charitable donation scheme called Community Champions that provides £180,000 of funding every quarter to local charities, sports clubs, schools and community groups.

Recent winners include Netherton Infant School who were awarded £6,000 to help fund a new reading area for pupils.

Charities, community groups, and organisations in looking for funding can apply through the Community Champions website.
