Plans to bring new homes to Helston reaches next stage

12 December 2024

Hundreds of new homes for local people in Helston are closer than ever after Cornwall Council made a resolution to grant planning permission.

It means Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon can start works on the remaining 310 properties that are due to come to the town, with construction on the first phase currently underway.

The approval releases substantial funds into the local community for nearby infrastructure and education.

Environmental features for the second and final phase at the site include public open green space and noise buffer mounds, while new cycle and foot paths that link to the wider area will also be put in place.

When complete, the Helston development will have 404 new houses for local people, 101 of which will be transferred to a housing association that can cater to those on the Council’s housing waiting list.

Persimmon currently has high-quality three and four-bed homes available for purchase at our Trehenlis Gardens site off Clodgey Lane in the town from £295,000.

We welcomed Cornwall Council’s Leader and the Cabinet Member for Planning & Housing alongside Cllr Guy Foreman, who’s ward covers Trehenlis Gardens, last autumn as it broke ground on the first phase of the site. It will incorporate sensitive design and reflect the local vernacular to deliver a long-term sustainable community.

The donation comes from our Community Champions scheme which sees £24,000 used to help good causes and much-valued organisations in Cornwall and West Devon every year. Recent recipients include Cornwall Air Ambulance, Museum of Cornish Life, and Helston AFC.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon Managing Director Andy Hill said:

“This marks a significant step forward for both Persimmon and the people of Helston, as Cornwall Council's resolution to grant planning permission brings us closer to delivering hundreds of new homes for local families.

“We are committed to building a vibrant and sustainable community at Trehenlis Gardens, leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the process.

“Our development will not only provide over 400 new homes, including much-needed properties to meet the area’s housing need, but also enhance local infrastructure with green spaces and improved connectivity.

“We look forward to working closely with Cornwall Council and the community to make this vision a reality as we approach the next stage."
