Popular rugby club gets boost before Christmas
21 December 2023
Yatton Rugby Club recently became the latest recipient of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley’s Community Champions scheme.
The £2,000 cheque was presented to Club President Paul Griffin, Treasurer Graham Goodhind, and flanker Finn Skuse at their clubhouse in the village by Severn Valley Sales Director, Carly Spear.
Yatton RFC, established in 1968, boasts over 300 members and has two senior and 10 junior teams, with the latter catering for under 6s to under 19s. Their men’s 1st XV compete in SW Division Counties 2 Tribute Somerset League and the 2nd XV in the Counties 4 Tribute Somerset South.
Its central role in the local community convinced the Severn Valley region that they were worthy winners of the grant. Persimmon’s Community Champions fund sees over £700,000 spent every year on good causes and valued organisations across the UK. Recent local recipients include Weston-super-Mare Food Hub, Bristol Children’s Charity, and South West Children’s Hospice.
At Persimmon we seek to bring 280 high-quality homes to Yatton to meet local housing need. It is also building at nearby Haywood Village in Weston-super-Mare, where properties are available for purchase from £287,000.
Commenting, Severn Valley region Sales Director Carly Spear, said:
“Yatton RFC is clearly a community institution and is exactly the kind of organisation we love to support at Persimmon through our Community Champions scheme.
“It was great to meet Paul, Graham and Finn at the presentation and hear about their passion for the club, and their plans moving forward.
“Hopefully, new and future residents in Yatton will become dedicated fans and players, and allow the club to go from strength to strength.”
Yatton RFC President Paul Griffin added:
“We are very grateful to Persimmon for their donation because, without the income the club generates, we won’t be able to provide everything that’s needed for players to actually play the sport they and our fans love so much.
“With so many members and players, it is an exciting time for Yatton RFC so to get a financial boost like we have from Persimmon can help go a long way in facilitating progress at the club.”
