Raith Rovers Community Foundation

North Scotland region donates £5,000 to support ‘Reminiscing Raith’ project.

Raith Rovers Community Foundation has been given a boost after banking a major donation from our North Scotland team through our Community Champions scheme.

The official charity arm of Raith Rovers Football Club aims to use the power of sport to engage, inspire, and empower the local community. One of their projects, Reminiscing Raith, tackles loneliness, isolation and poverty by inviting people to a warm Stark’s Park for entertainment and lunch.

Each fortnightly session has a guest speaker synonymous with Raith Rovers FC, Scottish football or the town of Kirkcaldy, takes the group through their lives and careers, hosted by Raith Rovers Club Historian, John Greer.

Recent guests include Danny Lennon, who scored for the Rovers in Germany against Bayern Munich and Dick Campbell, the legendary Scottish football manager. More than 40 people attend each fortnightly session and the donation will be used to cover the costs involved, which includes providing lunch for guests and attendees.

Persimmon is one of Fife’s biggest homebuilders and include Rosslyn Gait in Kirkcaldy. The Community Champions scheme supports charities and good causes in the areas where they operate and has seen more than £350,000 donated across Scotland in the last five years.

Cllr Judy Hamilton, Chair of the Raith Rovers Community Foundation, said:

"Projects like Reminiscing Raith create valuable opportunities for many local people to socialise and improve their wellbeing. It cannot run without the support of those who live and work in our community and we are hugely grateful to Persimmon for supporting such an important project.”

James MacKay, Persimmon North Scotland Managing Director, said:

“Reminiscing Raith is a fantastic project and we’re delighted to support the work the Community Foundation does to bring together local residents and supporters.

“Raith Rovers is a central plank of the Kirkcaldy community and as one of Fife’s biggest homebuilders, we want to support the areas we operate in. I hope this donation will help ensure more local people can benefit from the projects the Community Foundation runs.”
