Residents welcome opening of new pedestrian link on Cramlington development

North East region have installed a new footpath linking the new housing development and Cramlington town centre.
A pedestrian footpath connecting a new housing development with Cramlington town centre has been formally opened.
Housebuilders Persimmon and Bellway have stepped in to fund the new footpath providing residents with a safer route to shops and local services.
The planning persimmons granted for the development included connections with the town centre but only when a certain number of homes has been built - and that threshold has not yet been reached.
However, the two housebuilders have acted to install a link now following representations made by residents led by homeowner Julia Dowd and local Councillors.
Commenting on the opening of the new footpath Julia Dowd said: “It’s great to see this new link open allowing residents to safely walk into Cramlington.
“This means residents, families and children will now be able to access local services, schools, local parks and the wider town centre safely on foot without the need for people having to jump into their cars.”
Martin Thrumble, Technical Director of Persimmon North East said: “We’re pleased to have been able to step in and provide this new pedestrian link for residents.
“Although delivery of the new homes and associated infrastructure is progressing in line with the planning approvals granted, we appreciated the concerns raised by residents and the desire to see some kind of link in place sooner than originally envisaged.”
