School gets green light to upgrade facilities thanks to our Wessex region

08 March 2022

A Chippenham primary school looking to upgrade its facilities has been given a vital cash boost thanks to our Wessex region.

Ivy Lane School has received a £1,000 donation from our Wessex region as part of our Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon makes £64,000 a month available to fund local community initiatives across the UK.

The two-form entry school believes in ‘Learning for Life’, aiming to equip every child with both the skills to be successful beyond their primary years and a life-long appetite for learning.

Mrs Lammin, Head of Ivy Lane School, said: “One of our objectives this year is to improve the sports facilities we have on site and this funding from Persimmon Homes is certainly going to help us reach our goal.

“We are at the beginning stages of raising money to build a multi-use games arena (MUGA) because the field we have for sports gets waterlogged very quickly.

“Through the winter months we are presented with challenges in utilising the field in full to deliver some of our PE sessions.

“We want to increase the range of sport played and extend the chances for breakfast clubs, lunchtime clubs, gifted and talented clubs, SEND and Disadvantaged Learner sessions, holiday clubs, after school clubs and wraparound care.

“This generous donation takes us one step closer to having a permanent resource that can be enjoyed by children all year round.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales director at our Wessex region, said: “Ivy Lane School is located at the heart of Chippenham, so it gives us great pleasure to support such a key part of the local community.

“When we first received the application from Helen, her passion and enthusiasm jumped out straight away and I knew the money would be put to good use.

“Our Birds Marsh View development is just up the road and it’s proving to be extremely popular with homebuyers, many of which will have children that attend the school and will be able to enjoy this fantastic new facility.”
