School receives grand boost for outdoor learning space

A charity that supports a Wiltshire school to deliver an outstanding experience for its children is the latest recipient of funding from a regional house builder.
We donate up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.
Gemma Brushneen, from the charity, said: “The Friends of Sherston School are currently fundraising to overhaul their outdoor area, which is used for outdoor leaning and letting the children explore the beautiful space around them.
“We want to replace the current rotten seating area, purchase outdoor learning 'tools' such as clipboards, and magnifying glasses, and pond dipping kit, and start to bark the areas that are muddy year-round, and make it easier for the area to be used.
“We also plan to make a safety platform around the pond so the children can study the wildlife and many tadpoles that reside there.
“Our fundraising is always on going - currently we have held raffles, non-uniform days, cake/doughnut sales, virtual discos and have planned sponsored bike rides, movie nights and a quiz for later this year.
“However, these events have been severely impacted by the pandemic so we are extremely grateful for this funding from Persimmon because it will help us meet our goal.”
Pauline Fletcher, sales director for Wessex, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting The Friends of Sherston School with our Community Champions donation this month.
“The group work closely with the school and other local groups to offer extra-curricular activities for its children to enjoy throughout the school year which I think is amazing.
“Every penny raised goes towards delivering these events, and the necessary equipment for the children, to enhance their learning and development so it’s great to be involved.”
