Scouts honoured with donation

A local scout group has banked £1,000 after being announced as one of West Scotland’s Community Champions.
The Community Champions scheme supports good causes in areas where the company builds new homes and has seen over £1.5m donated to local charities, clubs and organisations across the country since 2021.
The 2nd Clyde Scout Group, based in the Pivot Centre in Moodiesburn, has been fundraising for new equipment since doubling the number of young people involved in its activities following the Covid pandemic.
The group, which now has over 160 scouts, takes part in a variety of activities, ranging from camping and hiking to swimming and abseiling. The activities aim to give all scouts the opportunity to take part in new experiences and learn new skills at the same time.
The group was presented with the cheque by local councillor Michael McPake, who joined Persimmon’s Kevin Murphy at the Pivot Centre to hear about the great work being done to support local young people.
Amanda Letarte, Group Scout Leader, 2nd Clyde Scout Group, said:
“We are extremely grateful to Persimmon for their generous donation to our group.
“Their support makes a huge difference to the opportunities we are able to provide our young people during our weekly sessions and for additional experiences such as camps and adventurous activities.”
Gartcosh, Glenboig and Moodiesburn Councillor, Michael McPake, said:
“The work of the local scout group is an asset to Moodiesburn and the surrounding villages. The increase in numbers of young people taking part is a testament to the selfless volunteers who give up their time to ensure young people gain new skills and experiences.
“I would like to thank Persimmon West Scotland for their generous donation to the Scout Group. It is positive to see a developer leave a legacy where they build new homes by supporting existing community groups.”
Chris Logan, West Scotland Managing Director, said:
“The volunteers at 2nd Clyde Scout Group deserve real credit for the positive impact they have on the local community and the way they’ve managed to increase opportunities for young people to take part in new experiences and develop new skills.
“I’m really pleased to support them to continue that great work with this donation and look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.”
West Scotland has recently launched its new Royale Meadows development at Muirhead, which will feature a variety of new homes, ranging from two-five bedrooms.
