Shared equity scheme for houses for sale in Fareham puts wind in sale of first time buyer

Primary school teacher Suzanne Geary took a career break for four years to travel the world only to return and find that getting onto the property ladder was not as easy as it had been for buyers before she left. That was until she came across a buying scheme at Persimmon Homes Southern’s Tanner Gate houses for sale in development in Fareham that provided her with the perfect solution; plus, she landed herself a two bedroom apartment within walking distance of the beach, putting the wind right back in her sails.
Persimmon’s Helping Hand scheme allows purchasers to own 100 per cent of their home having initially paid for just 75 per cent of the value of the property. They then pay back the remaining 25 per cent when they sell the property or within ten years, whichever comes first and that’s exactly what has enabled Suzanne to own her first home.
Suzanne explains: “After spending four years out of the country working on charter yachts in the Caribbean amongst other places, I was stunned at how difficult it was as a first time buyer so lodged for a couple of years to start saving money. Returning to my career as a primary school teacher and being offered a permanent position in September, gave me the confidence to start looking and explore options to make that first step.
“I had previously lived in Titchfield village and wanted to stay in the area and had looked at other Shared Equity schemes available but Persimmon’s was different in that it meant I owned the complete property and didn’t have to pay rent on the remaining share. It has enabled me to get onto the ladder and there’s no better feeling than owning your own home.”
By day Suzanne teaches six and seven year olds at Fair Oak Infant School and in her spare time she volunteers for Tall Ships Youth Trust, training young people how to sail and enjoy the sea safely.
Suzanne continues: “Living on the coast is amazing and yet properties tend to be expensive here. With my budget of £100,000 to £120,000, I really thought I’d struggle. Not the case as Persimmon’s Tanner Gate development is superbly priced and had just the home I was after. Not only that, thanks to the professional and speedy service from Persimmon, I didn’t have to wait long to move in. It took just three weeks!”
Tracey Lee, sales director of Persimmon Homes Southern, adds: “As a scheme, Helping Hand is really giving first time buyers the opportunity to make their first step and is proving to be just the answer for many homebuyers in the region. At Tanner’s Gate we are finding that enquiries have increased for the scheme, as well as for Part Exchange, and with its ideal location, the development and the buying initiatives available are proving a winning combination for us in Titchfield.”
Tanners Gate is located close to the Titchfield, a village steeped in history and tradition. There are a number of amenities available, with a range of local and high street shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafés.
With a range of homes available including two bedroom apartments starting at just £112,463 through the shared equity scheme and three bedroom homes starting from as little as £212,457, Tanners Gate not only provides a good location but excellent value.
