South Midlands team helps Wyre Forest-based scout group cook up a storm thanks to £5,000 donation
29 April 2024
A scout group based in the Wyre Forest district has secured a £5,000 donation from our South Midlands team, helping them to fund a kitchen expansion.
Far Forest Scout Group welcomes children in and around the Far Forest area, covering a wide geographical distance due to the rural nature of the area. The group already has a large membership – with 80 young people members of the Far Forest Scouts – but is looking to expand over 2024, with aspirations to refurbish their kitchen and eventually evolve into a wider community hub.
We donated the funds as part of our Community Champions initiative. The £5,000 cash boost will allow the group to expand their kitchen, improving their facilities to allow for a whole group to be cooking at the same time.
The donation was marked by a visit to the group from Russell Griffin, Managing Director for Persimmon South Midlands and Cllr Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda at Wyre Forest District Council.
Karen Gahan at Far Forest Scout Group said: “We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes and the team’s kind donation of £5,000 via their Community Champions fund. This support will help to ensure that our expansion goals for 2024 are achievable and will also enable us to welcome more members to the group thanks to a wider range of facilities that the funding will provide.
Cllr Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda at Wyre Forest District Council said: “One of the community benefits that is often overlooked from development schemes is the contribution that they make to local groups or amenities. I am delighted that Persimmon is supporting the Far Forest Scout Group with money that will help them invest in the future growth of the group and ensure they can keep providing for children for years to come.”
Russell Griffin, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in. We’re always delighted to lend a hand to local community groups to boost their ongoing initiatives or contribute to causes that mean a lot to them.”
“We’re delighted to be able to offer this £5,000 donation to Far Forest Scout Group, which will enable them to have a wider reach throughout the Kidderminster area.”
