The site manager at the East Haven development in the Vale of Glamorgan has been honoured by the National House Building Council (NHBC) for excellence in construction.
Steve Lewis was one of eight site managers from Persimmon Homes to achieve the UK-wide Pride in the Job Quality Award, which celebrates dedication to producing the highest quality homes, more than double the company’s tally for last year.
Persimmon Homes East Wales is constructing 63 units at the East Haven site in Barry.
Steve has been with Persimmon East Wales for six years, having previously worked on-site all over the UK as a carpenter. He entered the trade after leaving school at 16, giving him over two decades of experience in the building industry.
Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition of its type in the homebuilding industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers.
Every site manager on a site registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is entered into the competition, with Quality Award winners going forward to the Seal of Excellence Award round. Should they be successful again, they have the opportunity to be a Regional Award winner and have a shot at the final Pride in the Job Supreme Awards in January 2024.
Commenting on his award, Steve said:
“I am delighted to win this award for all the hard work that my team and I have put into making the homes we are building beautiful, durable, and desirable. Without them and the supervisors of my trades on-site who go far beyond the call of duty, we could not achieve the results we do.
“Winning this award is a great vote of confidence and a much appreciated recognition of what I have achieved in my goal of consistently producing high-quality homes that people love to live in.
“We go beyond what is the norm and try to go that extra mile with finishes, making sure customers feel like we are building their home and not just another house.
“In particular, I want to thank my assistant, Kieron, who also prides himself on doing everything to the best of our ability, not cutting corners, getting things right first time, and ensuring everyone on site works to those standards as well.”
Lee Woodfine, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, added:
“I am extremely proud of Steve and congratulate him again on his achievement. He is a dedicated craftsman in our industry and someone his peers and future site managers can look up to as an inspiration.
“Not only that, Steve is a shining example for the ambition and commitment Persimmon aspires to bring to all its developments, no matter how big or small, as we strive to deliver high-quality homes customers can rely on at a price they can afford.”
