Staff raise more than £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West

23 August 2018

Staff from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley have raised more than £10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley chose the hospice as its charity of the year in January. A group of individuals from the company, who have donned themselves as the ‘Severn Valley Runners & Riders’, have come together to raise as much money as possible for the cause.

From 10k runs and half day marathons to multi day cycle events, the team have so far completed ten events, including the Bristol 10k, Two Tunnels Half Marathon in Bath, Wales in a Day, Ride for Precious Lives and a London to Paris cycle challenge.

Rob Berry, quantity surveyor at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, is heading up the team. He said: “Children’s Hospice South West is a cause that is, sadly, one that is very close to our hearts.

“Our greatest but most rewarding challenge was definitely our London to Paris cycle. What should have been a mere 250 miles with 6,000ft climb, ended up as a 272-mile round trip with 13,000ft climb after going off route, but we made it. Special thanks to everyone who helped make this cycle possible.

“A mention also has to go to Nick Lloyd, Senior Surveyor at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley whose enthusiasm for running has encouraged people to take part in events. Sponsorships from these have had a huge impact on the fundraising total.”

Steve Roche, managing director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “My team have committed to umpteen cycling and running challenges, and to have raised more than £10,000 so far is phenomenal – we’re very proud of them.”

Children’s Hospice South West cares for children with life-limiting conditions and their families by providing respite care and short breaks, as well as emergency, palliative and end of life care from its three Hospices in, Barnstaple in North Devon, Wraxall near Bristol and St Austell in Cornwall.

Steve added: “We chose to support Children’s Hospice South West as we felt it is an incredibly worthwhile charity and the support they give to children and their families at such a difficult time is invaluable. “We will continue to raise funds throughout the year through events, staff dress down days and a charity skydive taking place in September.”

Amanda Gallagher, CHSW’s corporate partnerships fundraiser, added: “Ten sporting challenges and more than £10,000 raised so far - what an amazing achievement!

“It was great to see staff take part in our Ride for Precious Lives event. The three-day cycle was from St Austell to Bideford, Bideford to Taunton then Taunton to Bristol, visiting all three Hospices along the way. The ride finished at Charlton Farm Hospice and covered 205 miles with cyclists climbing 13000ft.

“I look forward to seeing what Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has lined up for their next fundraiser.”
