Students get set to makeover their leadership hub thanks to our Suffolk region

The Student Leadership Hub at Thurston Community College is set to get a makeover after the team received a donation of paint and brushes through our Suffolk region.
The hub is used by the school’s elected Student Leadership team, who ensure their fellow pupils have a voice. This includes the Student News Team who produce regular podcasts, blog posts and video content.
Members wanted to create a more inspiring and creative workspace – and Suffolk region was keen to help.
Through decorating contractor DA Rudd the developer was able to source enough paint to redecorate the whole space and Managing Director Dale Rudd also donated some rollers, brushes and trays so the students could get the perfect finish.
The team are now preparing the room ready for the makeover while continuing to speak up for students, campaigning for change and working with teachers to ensure students’ views are taken on board.
Leadership team member Callum said: “I think the school has brightened up since the team was launched because more people have a chance to have their say. Now we want to brighten up our hub too.”
James Morris, Student Development Leader at Thurston Community College, said: “Thank you to Persimmon and DA Rudd for arranging this donation.
“We have great ambitions for the team and want them to have a real voice here at Thurston and make positive changes to the College. In their short tenure they have already made so many positive changes and now we can give them a hub with a fresh feel thanks to this donation.”
Dale Rudd, Managing Director of DA Rudd, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to support the students after hearing how enthusiastic they were about decorating their hub and creating an inspiring space.”
Ian Hamilton, Managing Director of Suffolk region, said: “We are glad we were able to facilitate in sourcing paint and support the school. At Persimmon we are keen to support the communities within which we are building.”
