Swindon Council leader visits Persimmon’s Badbury Park site to see new community assets

24 August 2022

Swindon Borough Council leader, Cllr David Renard, has visited Persimmon Homes’ Badbury Park development to see the work being undertaken on various new community assets.

Persimmon at Badbury Park is located in Commonhead, Swindon, on the northern edge of the Coate Water Country Park with a wide range of homes including one-bed apartments, two-bed coach houses, and three beds.

As part of the site, the local Wessex business is also constructing six flats, which will be transferred to the Borough Council for the purpose of housing local people.

Work is also well underway on Badbury Park’s new community centre and convenience store which will be available to local people.

The company has seen 566 new homes occupied on the site, and contributed over £1.3million in community funding for the delivery of local education, infrastructure improvements and public open space.

Cllr Renard was provided a tour of the site by Persimmon Wessex managing director, Julian Roper, and given a ‘sneak peek’ of some the development’s new community assets.

Commenting on the visit, leader of Swindon Borough Council, Cllr David Renard said:

“I want to thank Persimmon Homes Wessex for the warm welcome and tour of Badbury Park.

“It was pleasing to see construction is well underway on the new flats that are set to be transferred to the Council, which we will in turn rent out to local people.

“Good progress is also being made on the new community centre and convenience store, which will be welcome news for local residents.

“I’m pleased to see one of the country’s leading housebuilders delivering new housing in the area but also investing in significant facilities for use by the local community.”

Persimmon Wessex managing director, Julian Roper, said:

“It was a real pleasure to host Cllr Renard for a tour of our site at Badbury Park.

“As a responsible local business we recognise the importance of working with key stakeholders such as Swindon Borough Council to help deliver a positive contribution for local communities.

“The construction of six new flats is nearly complete and will be transferred to the local council for the purposes of housing local people, as well as the delivery of a new community centre and convenience store.

“We’ve been determined to leave a positive legacy in the area, not just through the provision of new homes and jobs, but also with the delivery of new facilities for the benefit of the local community.

“We are proud to have developed a sustainable community at Badbury Park, leaving a legacy that should hopefully deliver significant economic, social and environmental value.”
