A brand new purpose built CoOp store on the Badbury Park development is the latest community asset to be delivered to local residents by the Wessex region, with Swindon councillors firmly of the belief that it will give residents a ‘greater level of convenience’ and further enhance the community feel.
Swindon Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, Cllr Gary Sumner, visited the site with Cllr Jenny Jefferies and Cllr Lawrence Elliott to see first-hand how this store is already serving the local residents.
Commenting of the newly opened store, Cllrs Sumner, Jefferies and Elliott said:
‘We are delighted that residents of Badbury Park can now benefit from this store and will undoubtedly offer many a greater level of convenience as well as being at the very heart of the community.
“This shop has brought with it 15 jobs for local people which we very much welcome. We believe this latest community facility delivered by Persimmon at Badbury Park demonstrates the company’s commitment to investing and delivering important assets for our local community.”
Persimmon Homes has contributed over £1.3million in community funding for the delivery of local amenities like the convenience store, and in areas such as education, infrastructure improvements and public open space within the Badbury Park site.
Wessex managing director, Julian Roper, said:
“As a responsible local business we recognise the importance of working with key stakeholders such as Swindon Borough Council to help deliver a positive contribution for local communities.
“This convenience store demonstrates our commitment to ensuring Persimmon leaves a lasting legacy in this area, not just through the provision of new homes but also through job creation as well as new facilities for the benefit of the community.
“Persimmon is proud to have developed a thriving community at Badbury Park, which should leave a legacy that delivers significant economic, social and environmental value.”
Harry Osborne, store manager at Your Co-op Food in Badbury Park, said:
“We’re so excited to be opening the doors of our brand-new convenience store on Badbury Park.
“It’s great to be investing in the local Swindon area, bringing more jobs as well serving and supporting the local community.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming members and customers, and I’m sure they’ll be impressed with the wide range of products and services we have on offer.”
