The town of Swindon has welcomed its first new library in over twenty years as Persimmon Homes Wessex has completed its handover of a community hub at Badbury Park.
The new facility was opened on Saturday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony organised by South Swindon Parish Council and attended by the Council Chair, Neil Hopkins, Swindon Borough Council Leader, Cllr Jim Robbins, Wessex region Managing Director, Julian Roper, and Lawn and Badbury Park Councillors, Rebecca Banwell-Moore, Marianne Le Coyte-Grinney and Graham Philpot.
Wessex region is committed to creating vibrant and sustainable communities and the new hub is nestled at the heart of the Badbury Park site. The spacious community hub is available for bookings and use by local groups and residents, and the library will offer a welcoming space where residents of all ages can gather, learn, and explore.
Commenting, Wessex region Managing Director, Julian Roper, said:
"We are incredibly proud to have helped deliver Swindon's first new library in over 20 years at the community hub on Badbury Park.
“During our time at the development, we have provided around 600 new homes for local people and contributed over £1.3million in funding for the delivery of local education, infrastructure improvements and public open space.
“A local convenience store has also opened and we believe that this new hub will enhance the lives of Badbury Park residents and help foster a really strong community spirit.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with key partners such as Swindon Borough Council and South Swindon Parish Council to deliver on our commitments at Badbury Park and help leave a long-term legacy in the area.”
