Olympic medallist and Commonwealth Games champion Daniel Purvis visits Stirling High School.
A group of Stirling High School students have a spring in their step following a masterclass in gymnastics from Team GB athlete Daniel Purvis.
The visit, which was arranged by East Scotland region as part the partnership with Team GB, saw Daniel make a special guest appearance at the school, where he talked about his journey to winning medals for Scotland and Great Britain on the world stage and answered questions from local pupils.
The students then had the opportunity to learn from the best and experience a taste of the skills required to succeed in the sport as Daniel led a gymnastics session.
Daniel, a former European and British champion in gymnastics, took home gold in the parallel bars at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and was part of the bronze medal-winning GB men's team at the London Olympics in 2012. He has a string of successes and medals under his belt across a range of gymnastic disciplines.
Daniel Purvis said:
“It was a pleasure to meet with pupils at Stirling High and it was great to see how much enthusiasm the students have for gymnastics and sport generally.
“I really enjoyed sharing my own story with them and I hope it’s inspired them to set their own goals and work as hard as they can to achieve them.”
Laura Still, East Scotland region Sales Director, said:
“One of the benefits of Persimmon’s partnership with Team GB is it gives us the opportunity to arrange these visits and give local pupils a unique chance to hear from someone who has reached the very top in their sport.
“It was brilliant to see the positive impact Daniel’s visit had on students at Stirling High and hopefully it can inspire them to achieve their own successes in the future.”
Ally Macleod, Head Teacher, said:
“We were delighted to welcome Daniel to Stirling High School. Our pupils felt inspired by hearing his story, and loved participating in a practical masterclass.”
