Team GB Olympian Inspires Youngsters At Cardiff School

Youngsters at a Cardiff primary school went for gold with a PE session led by Team GB multi-medallist, Matt Langridge MBE.

The pupils at Ysgol Gynradd Creigiau Primary School were specially selected by Persimmon Homes East Wales to enjoy the unique training session as part of our partnership with Team GB.

Matt Langridge competed for Team GB in the Olympics in Men’s Eight rowing, winning a silver medal in Beijing in 2008, bronze in London in 2012 and gold in Rio in 2016.  He was guest of honour at the school where the pupils enjoyed a training session, meeting Matt and asking him questions as well as admiring his medals at close quarters.

Head teacher Delyth Wyn Kirkman said: “It was a real honour to host Matt at our school and the children all enjoyed their special PE session – I am sure it is a school day that will stand out in their memories for years to come.

“Sport and the teamwork, commitment and enthusiasm associated with sport are really important to both staff, pupils at our school and the wider community.

“Thank you to Persimmon Homes and Team GB for creating such a special day

Matt said: “It was a real pleasure to visit the school and to lead the session with some really enthusiastic and engaged children. They certainly had some interesting questions for me, including whether I had encountered crocodiles while rowing.

“The partnership between Persimmon Homes and Team GB allows us to help inspire the next generation and it is a pleasure to be able to share my passion for sport with the pupils. I hope they may have been inspired and will look at what other activities are open to them too.”

Victoria Williams, sales director for Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “Persimmon Homes is keen to put something back into the communities in which we are building. It was a pleasure to be able to visit Ysgol Gynradd Creigiau Primary School along with Matt as part of our partnership with Team GB

“The children were interested in Matt’s path to becoming a Team GB athlete and competing at an Olympic Games. Who knows, he may have inspired some athletes of the future.”

Persimmon Homes is currently building stunning two, three and four-bedroom homes in Creigiau at The Parish @ Llanilltern Village.

Persimmon Homes is an Official Partner of Team GB as it prepares for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  As part of the partnership the housebuilder has created a fitness and activity ‘Stay Active’ pack for families. Downloadable from the Persimmon Homes website the pack includes a carefully crafted selection of activities – from a fitness challenge to discovering facts about Japan to colouring, learning origami as well as how to make a wind chime.
