Team Persimmon goes on the run for charity
14 December 2010
Three dedicated members of staff from leading local housebuilder, Persimmon Homes South Coast, donned trainers and tracksuits this month to take part in the BUPA Great South Run 2010.
To raise money for the homebuilders dedicated charity, Leukaemia and Lymphoma research, Carla Durrant, sales administrator, Steve Bennett, construction director and Adrian Smith, senior surveyor, stepped up to form team Persimmon for the gruelling run.
Having raised over £2,000 for the charity, the Persimmon team competed against over 20,000 other competitors, and even went on to prove they were made of championship worthy stuff after taking the winners title for the mixed team event, finishing in a combined time of six hours and 20 minutes.
Carla Durrants comments; “The race was a challenge for all of us from Persimmon and something that we spent a lot of time training for in the months leading up to it. We are thrilled to have managed to raise so much for Leukaemia and Lymphoma research, it is an extremely worthy cause and we are looking forward to handing the money over to them.
“We are also really proud to have been named the winners of the mixed team event – it’s proof that all our hard work and training really did pay off and we are already looking forward to next years event where we hope to retain our crown!”
Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research specialises in life-saving research into treatments and cures for blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and is celebrating its 50th birthday this year.
