The sky is the limit for talented sales advisor

A Persimmon sales advisor from Cannock has appeared on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year after being shortlisted from thousands of applicants.

Isabella Howe, aged 22, featured in this weeks episode hosted by Stephen Mangan and returning judges including artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, independent curator Kathleen Soriano and art historian Kate Bryan.

Throughout the season, several rounds of regional competitions take place where artists are challenged to paint portraits of famous sitters.

Artists are given four hours to create a portrait that captures the essence of their celebrity subject. Each week, one winning artist chosen by the judges goes through to the semi-finals, in a bid to get through to the final, which is filmed at the National Portrait Gallery.

Isabella said: “The whole experience has been a complete whirlwind and I still can’t believe it’s actually happened.

“I only started oil painting two years ago so to come this far is something I’m massively proud of and hopefully it will give me the platform to go on and achieve even more in the future.

“I really enjoyed filming at the Battersea Arts Centre as it was a completely new experience and it challenged me in more ways than one.

“It was a fourteen-hour day back in April that included painting time, interviews and photoshoots so as you can imagine it was really full on.

“I run a small business called Isabella Frances Art Studio that sells landscape prints, seascape oil paintings and commissioned oil portraits through my Instagram and Etsy accounts. Hopefully this additional exposure will help give it a little boost ahead of the Christmas season.”

Isabella joined Persimmon Homes as a sales advisor in 2018 and is currently part of the team at Hillside View, a new development at Lawley Village near Telford.

David Greengrass, head of sales for Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “We’re extremely proud of Isabella, it’s a massive achievement to be shortlisted for such a huge show.

“There are lots of gifted and ambitious individuals in the business and Isabella is a perfect example of that. It’s great that she’s able to showcase her incredible talent to a national audience and I’m sure it will bring her more success in the future.

“We have a really close-knit team at Hillside View and I know everyone in the office tuned in to see how she got on.”
