Top marks to Bedford pupils who name new developments
16 October 2012
Two Bedfordshire school girls have earned themselves a place in the history books by coming up with the names of a pair of new housing developments.
Pupils, Ann Travers (9) and Sarah Hawkins (9), came up with names for the Persimmon Homes development on Church Road, Wootton and the neighbouring Charles Church development.
"Thanks to Ann, the new Persimmon Homes site will now be called Berryfields, while Sarah has named the Charles Church site, Jubilee Gardens.
The Year Four girls will receive £25 worth of book vouchers each to thank them for their creativity.
Head of sales for Persimmon Charles Church Homes, Claire Lambert, said: “We really liked the ideas that Ann and Sarah came up with.
“We felt Ann’s idea reflected the friendly, rural qualities of the Persimmon site whilst Sarah’s evokes the luxury and sophistication of our Charles Church development.
Head master, Chris Tavener, at Wootton Lower School said: “It was great to work with Persimmon and Charles Church Homes to give the children the chance to contribute to building the community.”
Claire added: “We’d like to thank all the children who came up with the names for our site. There is certainly a lot of creativity in Bedfordshire.”
