Uniting the community in Rendlesham, Suffolk
02 April 2024

A community centre in Rendlesham has been given a £3,000 donation to kick start a series of upgrades to modernise the hall.
The parish council in Rendlesham are responsible for running the centre, which is used regularly by baby ballet, an over 60s group and BounceFit.
The parish council hope a revamp will make the Rendlesham Community Centre more appealing to an even wider audience to ensure it continues to be a hub for the growing community.
They applied for a Community Champions grant from Persimmon Homes Suffolk, who have recently launched their show home at Honours Meadow on the edge of the village, and were awarded £3,000.
A presentation took place at the Honours Meadow sales hub, and Cllr Tim Wilson, of East Suffolk Council, joined the event.
Ian Hamilton, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: “The community centre is a valuable asset to everyone in Rendlesham, including the new families who will be moving to Honours Meadow.
“It is an honour to be able to support the parish council as they seek to upgrade the facilities, ensuring they continue to be available to those living in and around the village. Centres like this bring the whole community together.”
Cllr Nickie Delacamp, of Rendlesham Parish Council, said: “We are trying to grow the community centre as the village itself grows, and we want to reach a much wider audience. Having more modern facilities will help us do that and ensure we are a place that people want to book for parties and events, as well as their group meetings.
“We have a wonderful facility here and we want to ensure even more people within our community can access it, so we are grateful to Persimmon for this donation to allow us to start these works.”
Cllr Tim Wilson, who represents Rendlesham and Orford on East Suffolk Council, said: “It is good to see Persimmon are not only delivering homes that offer a 31% reduction in carbon emissions but also supporting the wider community here in Rendlesham.
“We want to continue working with Persimmon to ensure the right homes are being delivered in the right places at the right price to meet the needs of our residents.”
