Wakefield school awarded housebuilder’s funding
16 December 2020
A Wakefield school has received £1,000 from a housebuilder to help fund new IT equipment.
Mackie Hill Junior and Infant School was awarded the funds by Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, thanks to its Community Champions scheme.
The donation will go towards new laptops to support its pupils’ educational needs.
Catherine Holmes from Mackie Hill’s PTA team said: “This is wonderful news for the children. The current pandemic has not only taken away our usual fundraising activities but has disrupted much of the children’s education.
"The school is working hard to provide additional ‘catch-up’ sessions for the pupils so any absence from school will not have a long-term impact on their future education.”
“Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable the school to purchase six new laptops, so we are very grateful.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions match-funding initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building.
Christopher Hull, deputy managing director of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Community Champions has allowed us to support dozens of good causes and assisting with the education of our younger generation is a very worthy cause.”
