Wessex site manager wins quality award

27 June 2023

A senior site manager at a Persimmon housing development in Malmesbury has won an award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) for quality home construction.

Luke Maggs was one of eight site managers from Persimmon Homes to achieve the UK-wide Pride in the Job Quality Award, which celebrates dedication to producing the highest quality homes, more than double the company’s tally for last year.

Luke has been with Persimmon Homes Wessex since January 2019, having previously served a 13 year stint between 2003 and 2016. He started out in the industry over 20 years ago as a bricklayer for the family business.

Persimmon Homes Wessex is currently constructing 201 units for local people at the Backbridge Farm site, with a mixture of sizes and architectural styles. The development will also include a bridge for residents to get into Malmesbury town.

Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition of its type in the homebuilding industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers.

Every site manager on a site registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is entered into the competition, with Quality Award winners going forward to the Seal of Excellence Award round. Should they be successful again, they have the opportunity to be a Regional Award winner and have a shot at the final Pride in the Job Supreme Awards in January 2024.

Commenting on his award, Luke said “I am really proud to have been given this award for all that I have accomplished at Backbridge Farm, alongside my hard-working team who deserve this award as much as I do.

“It is really important to me that we produce high quality properties, not only for the professional pride we feel in doing a job, but because we know that house will become someone’s home where they can build their life and take care of their property.

“So, I want to share this recognition with my fantastic team on the Backbridge site, particularly Ed, Elliot, and Alan – from forklift drivers to site labourers, this was a team effort and we will continue to bring high standards to every job we undertake.”

Julian Roper, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, added “I am really happy for Luke because I know just how hard he works to lead his team to get great results for Persimmon customers in their quest for a house they’d love to live in. It is because of people like Luke that Persimmon Wessex is building high quality homes people can rely on at a price they can afford.”
