A two charities helping sick young people have received a cash boost of £8,500, thanks to a golf day held by the team at West Midlands.
Members of the Telford-based team as well as our subcontractors and suppliers took to the course at Hawkstone Park Golf Club to raise much needed funds for Hope House and Teenage Cancer Trust. In total, 92 players took part, with contractors – including R&R Groundworkers who sponsored the event - donating prizes to give players encouragement during the day.
Hope House Children’s Hospices is a centre of excellence for children’s palliative care ensuring every family gets the very best care and support when and where they need it. The hospice puts the needs of children at the heard of everything they do, raising funds and using these carefully in order to provide the best care to sick children and their families.
Teenage Cancer Trust is a cancer care and support charity in the UK that exists to improve the cancer experience of young people aged 13–24. Founded in 1990, the charity's key service is providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals.
A spokesperson for Hope House said: “We are hugely grateful to Persimmon Homes for supporting Hope House Children’s Hospices. The families of the children we care for tell us every day that our hospices are an absolute lifeline for them. We simply wouldn't be able to offer this care if it were not for the support of businesses like Persimmon Homes. We are truly thankful they have chosen to support seriously ill local children.”
Hannah Jackson, Senior Relationship Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “We’re so grateful to Persimmon Homes West Midlands for raising this fantastic amount.
“Their support means that we can provide specialised tailored and age-appropriate care to young people when cancer has turned their world upside down.
“Cancer kills more teenagers and young adults in the UK than any other disease. There’s never been a worse time to receive that news, with healthcare services under severe pressures, waiting times increasing, and diagnosis taking longer.
“Young people need our help more than ever and that’s why support like we have received from Persimmon Homes West Midlands is so critical.”
Daniel Hassall, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “What we do is about so much more than building quality homes; it’s also about supporting the communities in which we build in a number of ways.
“At Persimmon, we encourage our team to raise funds for causes close to their hearts and it’s great to know that our golf day has had a positive impact on Hope House and Teenage Cancer Trust.”
