West Wales lands agreement in Carmarthen
10 August 2023
West Wales region have completed the purchase of land to unlock a major housing development on the outskirts of western Carmarthen.
West Wales has purchased the site at Pentremeurig Farm which is part of a strategic allocation in Carmarthenshire Council’s Local Development Plan, and has outline planning permission for the delivery of up 250 new homes for local people.
The site, which will include 30 social homes to meet local housing need, will be well served by the relatively new Carmarthen West Link Road. Vast community benefit would also be delivered through the creation of new jobs, significant S106 contributions, and the delivery of both equipped and open play spaces.
West Wales will now begin working on their wider vision for the land and what the development will look like as part of its reserved matters application.
Commenting on the purchase, Persimmon Homes West Wales Land and Planning Manager, Ryan Greaney, said:
“This is a hugely exciting development that could deliver much-needed homes in Carmarthen.
"If detailed planning is successful, with the potential to deliver up to 250 homes including social provision, this site could provide many local people with the dream and opportunity of home-ownership.
“Our plans for the site will be of high quality and we will ensure that placemaking is at the centre of our approach to ensure any scheme will deliver a long-term sustainable legacy.
“We cannot forget that such a development will bring further benefits locally including investment in facilities and amenities and increased council receipts. While a good supply of housing always gives businesses confidence to invest in an area knowing there is a workforce available, generating jobs – including the ones needed to build the homes in the first place.
“We look forward to developing our plans and sharing them with key stakeholders and the local community in due course.”
