West Wales region gives primary school pupils the chance to swap classroom for construction site

28 March 2023

Pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Cross Hands have spent a morning at Parc Cerrig development where they got to learn first-hand about the various stages of house building.

The visit was arranged by West Wales region to help support the children’s learning and enhance understanding of their current theme – ‘structures’ – which they are discussing in lessons.

During the visit the pupils were given a tour of the site and taken into properties, all currently at different stages of the construction process.

The pupils from years 4-6 were enthusiastic and engaged, with many asking questions about the various requirements and designs of a new Persimmon home.

Following the visit Deputy Head Teacher at Ysgol Gynradd Cross Hands, Mrs Emma Walter said:

“We would like to thank Persimmon Homes West Wales for facilitating this visit to their Parc Cerrig development – it has really helped enhance the children’s knowledge and understanding of housebuilding.

“Our school is just a stone’s throw away from the development with several pupils living on Parc Cerrig, so it was great for them to have the opportunity to see how their home was built, as well as learning about the health and safety of living on a live construction site.

“The children returned to school full of excitement and certainly got a lot out of this visit.”

Commenting on the school visit, West Wales region Managing Director, Stuart Phillips, said:

“We were delighted to be able to welcome pupils and teachers from local primary school, Ysgol Gynradd Cross Hands to our Parc Cerrig development.

“At Persimmon we do much more than build good quality homes, and we are determined to leave a lasting positive legacy within our communities.

“Engaging with local schools is an important element of our community outreach work, and we hope the children had a fascinating insight into the industry, lighting an interest that might see them eventually become the Persimmon employees of the future.”

West Wales’ regions Parc Cerrig development offers a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes in a convenient location for local amenities as well as being in reasonable close proximity to the west wales coast. https://www.persimmonhomes.com/new-homes/west-wales/parc-cerrig
