West Yorkshire provides vital donation to Leeds-based baby charity
24 April 2023

A community-based charity in Leeds has received a £1,000 donation to continue providing essential baby items to families in need.
The rapidly growing charity has received the donation after making an application for funding to our Community Champions scheme.
Christopher Hull, Managing Director of Persimmon West Yorkshire, met with some of the volunteers and trustees at the charity to hand over a cheque for £1,000. MP for Leeds Central, Hilary Benn, also attended the handover to learn more about the charity.
Leeds Baby Bank runs a successful volunteer programme for the local community to provide essential baby items to families in need. As well as providing families with baby supplies, the charity seeks to reuse items to create a more sustainable city by accepting pre-loved items like clothing and prams.
The donation from the region will give the charity vital funding to purchase essential items such as nappies, milk, wipes and toiletries.
Leeds Baby Bank works on a referral-only basis and is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9.30 am and 3 pm and Friday from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
Attending the cheque handover, Hilary Benn, MP for Leeds Central, commented:
“This welcome Community Champions donation will make a big difference to Leeds Baby Bank and the wonderful work it does. Having a baby is a very expensive time for families and, for those on low incomes, it can be a real struggle. That’s why the work of the Leeds Baby Bank is so important to our community.”
Ellie Brown, Charity Manager from Leeds Baby Bank, said:
“We are over the moon to be awarded this Community Champions donation from Persimmon. This donation will be used to help local families in Leeds who are experiencing poverty.
“As a grass-roots charity, this funding makes a big difference to us and we're grateful for Persimmon's support. A BIG thank you from the Leeds Bank team.”
Christopher Hull, Managing Director of Persimmon West Yorkshire, commented:
“Leeds Baby bank is a fantastic cause. We’re delighted to enable them to continue lending critical support to families in Leeds.
“It’s really pleasing to hear that not only is the assistance provided by the charity caring for those most in need but also it is creating a more sustainable city here in Leeds.”
We have donated over £1.5 million to charities, community groups and local organisations nationwide via our Community Champions scheme over the last two years. Donations of up to £6,000 are available to local community and charitable groups every quarter, with applications received via the Community Champions website.
