West Yorkshire region assists local football club’s fundraising goal

A 100-year-old Football Club in Huddersfield has scored a donation of £1,000 from our West Yorkshire region.
Berry Brow AFC is working towards establishing a junior set-up for local children, offering them the chance to join a junior football club at a supplemented low cost to deter them from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and giving them a sense of belonging and community.
The football club, based in Huddersfield, applied for funding from our Community Champions scheme. The funds will be used for purchasing essential items such as a junior kit and training equipment such as balls, nets, bibs and first aid supplies.
The scheme, which has made donations of over £1.5 million in the last two years, is open to charities, community groups and local organisations. Grants of up to £6,000 are available every quarter, with applications received via the Community Champions website.
Andy Roberts from Berry Brow AFC said: “We’d like to thank Persimmon for this grant which has helped us to meet our fundraising target.
“The already dedicated committee of the football club are keen to play a big part in the junior set-up, including coaching, refereeing and mentoring the younger children.
“The long-term aim would be to see these young children develop and nurture into young adults and become part of the senior teams in years to come.”
Christopher Hull, Managing Director, West Yorkshire region: “At Persimmon we're proud to support hundreds of fantastic causes in the regions we build in through our Community Champions scheme.
“We’re an official partner of Team GB and so it’s fantastic to be able to provide sporting opportunities to future generations by supporting local causes such as Berry Brow AFC. We wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”
