Weston-super-Mare school gets sports hall boost

A school in Weston-super-Mare has been gifted £1,000 as it looks to build a new sports hall for its pupils.
Westhaven School on Ellesmere Road is a special needs school catering for 90 children with a range of additional needs and disabilities. The donation was made by Persimmon Homes Severn Valley through the company’s Community Champions scheme. The national match-funding programme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.
“We want to thank Persimmon Homes for this generous donation as we are now one step closer to our fundraising target,” said Laura Fulton, a spokesperson for Friends of Westhaven PTA. Although we already offer an exciting horticulture department, brand new play areas and computer facilities, Westhaven lacks a dedicated sports hall. The school currently has its PE lessons in the space used for assemblies and lunch, but it is very small and is unable to accommodate the students in a full class.”
Laura added: “To get this new building would be fantastic for both pupils and staff. We believe our students deserve the best and are prepared to continue our hard work to raise funds to get this outside of the normal school budget.”
Steve Roche, managing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We are delighted to be helping Westhaven School. It is a valued and vital part of the local community, and for that reason we are more than happy to be supporting them.”
