Weston Whippets Running Club receives equipment boost
15 December 2021
An athletics club for young people in Weston-super-Mare has received a financial boost to buy new training equipment.
Weston Whippets Running Club has scooped £750 through our Community Champions scheme.
Each month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK.
Weston Whippets works alongside England Athletics to deliver its branded 'funetics' sessions for children aged four to 12.
The group is also set to launch a youth team for people aged 12 and over and recently delivered a two-hour session to local children with diabetes.
Victoria Lindsay, of Weston Whippets, said: “We’re delighted to receive this boost from Persimmon.
“This funding will allow us to build our equipment to ensure we continue to deliver a high standard of grassroots athletics to the children in our community.
“We’ll be able to buy things like a standing long jump mat, throwing equipment, medicine balls and stopwatches.
“We also hope that this will enable more children from our community to come along and join in.
“Fundamental athletic skills are required in so many sports so what we offer is a brilliant way to build discipline for any other sport.”
Carly Spear, sales director at our Severn Valley region, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the Weston Whippets.
“Being involved in sport can have tremendous benefits for young people. I hope this new equipment encourages more people to take up athletics.”
