Willerby football club receives cash boost donation

17 September 2021

A community football club in Yorkshire is set to benefit from better training facilities and a new kit, thanks to a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire.

Westella & Willerby AFC applied for the funding through Persimmon Homes Building Futures scheme, which supports organisations working specifically with the under-18’s.

The club brings young people together, supporting them in developing new skills and gaining friendships from the age of three up until the age of 18.

A spokesperson from the club, Mark McGrath, said: “The funding will be a fantastic boost for us as a club and we are massively grateful to Persimmon Homes for selecting us.

“The money will be used to help cover a lot of our costs such as pitch rental, training facilities, new equipment, and a new kit. We will also be able to enter more competitions which will not only improve our players development but also encourage more children from the community to get involved.”

Building Futures will deliver more than £1 million to good causes across England, Scotland, and Wales. The initiative aims to support community groups working with under-18s across three categories – education & arts, health, and sport.

A total of 128 grants of £1,000 will be awarded across Persimmon’s 32 regional businesses to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects.

Three initiatives will then go on to win £100,000 each through a national online public vote. The winners will be named at a gala dinner for finalists in November.

In each sector – education & arts, health, and sport – as well as the £100,000 first prize, there will be a £50,000 second prize and a £20,000 third prize, while a further 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000.

Scott Water, managing director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Our Building Futures scheme is all about supporting young people and we are delighted to be able to support a club which has the wellbeing of the children at the heart of their club.”

In addition to the housebuilder’s Building Futures initiative, the Persimmon Homes successful Community Champion scheme continues where, every month, donations of up to £1,000 are awarded to two good causes within its 32 operating businesses.
