Women’s charity receives cash to help with demand

19 November 2021

Cardiff Women’s Aid has received a financial boost to help staff dealing with an increase in demand brought about by the pandemic.

The organisation - which supports survivors of violence, domestic abuse and sexual violence – has received a £1,000 grant through our Community Champions campaign.

The money will be put towards the cost of clinical supervision, which aims to improve staff wellbeing, resilience, and mitigate the impact of potential vicarious trauma.

Debbie Beadle, CEO of Cardiff Women’s Aid, said: “We’re really grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation.

“We provide holistic support for women and children in Cardiff through emergency accommodation, 1:1 support and advocacy, education, counselling, aftercare and recovery programmes and an online forum for survivors.

“We have a 24/7 helpline, drop-in centre, and a Women’s Centre. During the past 12 months and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the volume of referrals to our crisis services have increased, alongside the complexity of support needs.

“Although one third of the cost of clinical supervision support is funded by local authority, our staff are in need of more frequent and in-depth support after working through the global pandemic and working as part of a 24/7 high risk service.

“This £1,000 will help us to to sustain the level of clinical supervision needed.”

Victoria Williams, sales director at East Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Cardiff Women’s Aid.

“The pandemic has had knock-on effects for all sorts of charities and groups. In this case, Cardiff Women’s Aid has, sadly, seen its services become even more in-demand.

“It has been tough for its staff and we’re pleased to be able to improve staff wellbeing by meeting the cost of some of the required clinical supervision.”

We’re currently building stunning new homes across South Wales, including at The Parish @ Llanilltern Village in Creigiau, where prices start from £282,495.
