Work gets underway in Swaffham

06 March 2020

Work is beginning on a new housing development being launched in Swaffham which will provide much-needed homes in the area while supporting around 700 local jobs.

Persimmon Homes East Midlands is developing Pedlar’s Meadow, in Norwich Road, which will provide 165 homes with a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties. Section 106 payments totalling £585, 000 mean Pedlar’s Meadow will also provide areas of public open space, one of which will contain a children’s play area and outdoor gym, and there will also be contributions towards education, the library, a travel plan, bus service improvements and off-site Public Rights of Way. The development will also support around 700 jobs, including direct staff, contractors and the wider supplier network.

The Home Builders’ Federation estimates 4.3 jobs are created for every new home built*, both directly in the construction industry and through the supply chain, which is also a support to the local economy. Nick Phillips, Director in Charge, said: “As well as having the opportunity of providing much needed homes we are pleased to be creating jobs in construction and the supply chain which brings a boost to Norfolk’s economy and the region overall. A number of people have already registered an interest in the £22.5 million development".

Nova Eames, Sales Director said: “Pedlar’s Meadow is certainly attracting some interest, as it will appeal to a wide cross-section of buyers. It provides countryside living together with great commuter transport links, so it is proving very popular.” A four-bedroom detached Chedworth showhome is due to be launched at the development while first completions are expected in October. Nova added: “People can now buy off-plan at Pedlar’s Meadow, which means purchasers can secure their preferred property and location within the development. In addition, reserving at this stage means customers can truly personalise their home by choosing from a range of ‘finishing touches’ - fixtures and fittings items such as kitchen units, appliances, waterfall showers, wall tiles and flooring options. It also means that buyers have the maximum amount of time to prepare themselves, taking some of the stress out of moving home.”
