Young couple’s fast-track to home ownership

14 June 2022

A young Northampton couple fast-tracked their way to home ownership thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy initiative.

First time buyers Millie Kerley and Ross Jones were able to secure the keys to their two-bedroom house at the Scholars Green development much earlier than they expected by using the equity loan scheme.

Millie said: “We were looking to buy a house later this year and had been saving hard for our deposit, but when we saw the Alnwick style house at Scholars Green and learned we would be able to use Help to Buy, we realised we could fast-track our plans.”

The 23-year-old works as a sales/part exchange co-ordinator for Midlands, so was already well informed on the benefits of the scheme.

With Help to Buy, customers only need a five per cent deposit and the Government provides an equity loan of 20 per cent of the asking price which is interest and repayment free for five years. The remaining 75 per cent of the house price is secured through a mortgage.

Millie added: “My job involves liaising with purchasers, solicitors and brokers to help the sale of a home to run smoothly, so knowing the process meant I was always prepared for each stage, but it is still quite stressful.

“We chose the Alnwick design house because of the practical open-plan dining kitchen and cosy separate living room. It is absolutely perfect for us and we love living here.

“As I work in the Persimmon Midlands head office, I know how focused the company is on delivering high quality properties and five-star customer service.

“Everyone deserves a good experience when buying the place they will call home, and that dedication to excellence certainly gave me confidence when it came to buying my own house.”

Scholars Green, on Boughton Green Road, offers a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, in the popular suburb of Kingsthorpe.

Claire Dearsley, sales director for Persimmon Midlands, added: “Schemes like Help to Buy are a real lifeline when it comes to helping first time buyers to secure the keys to their first home. Our experienced sales team is always happy to provide more details on the options available to prospective buyers.

“We hope Millie and Ross continue to enjoy their new home and, who knows, one day use the Persimmon Homes part exchange scheme to move up the property ladder?”

Persimmon Midlands operates new homes developments throughout Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.
