£1,000 grant will help fierce old birds

A fitness community that targets improving the health of women over 70 has received a donation from Persimmon Homes.

Persimmon Homes Central donated £1,000 to Old School Fitness in Coventry through its Community Champions scheme, an initiative that match-funds two good causes every month up to the value of £1,000 each. It has been running since 2015.

Based in Allesley Village, Old School Fitness offers a variety of exercise classes and lifestyle sessions, promising a community spirit to ensure people achieve their goals.

Stephanie Hamman from Old School Fitness said: “We are a Community Interest Company and have raised money to allow our instructors to train as inclusive coaches.”

“As well as focusing on disabled members, we want to specifically focus on 70+ women, increasing health, fitness and immunity before the winter. Age is by far the main risk factor for Covid, so it makes sense to encourage as many over 70s to lose weight and increase muscle.”

“We are looking to start a new 70+ weightlifting class called FOB – Fierce Old Birds. We need to buy specialist equipment, including weights, and for those ladies who may require a wheelchair or to sit, suitable chairs. Thank you so much Persimmon Homes, this grant will make a big difference.”

Sarah Preston, Sales Director Designate of Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are happy to be able to help Old School Fitness continue to train specialist instructors by naming them as one of our Community Champions.”

“We continue to receive a large number of applications each month and would urge any group who is unsuccessful to apply again the following month.”
