A Doncaster food bank has received a £1,000 donation from a housebuilder to help maintain its ongoing work.
The All Saints Food Bank was awarded the funds from Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, thanks to its Community Champions scheme.
The food bank was launched in May, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and at the peak of the crisis was delivering over 40 food parcels per week to residents in the north of Doncaster.
Speaking on behalf of the All Saints Food Bank, Reverend Stephen Gardner, said: “We are immensely grateful to Persimmon Homes.
“This donation will fund our actual delivery boxes so we can focus our other donations on the parcels’ contents. We work with residents in the Woodlands, Highfields, Adwick, Carcroft and Skellow areas, and are continuing to see an increase in demand for our support. We estimate that Persimmon Homes’ donation will ensure we have enough delivery boxes for at least the next six months, and possibly beyond.”
The All Saints Food Bank provides a referral-only scheme operated through local agencies including The Doncaster Community Hub, schools, doctors and key support workers.
Richard Hosie, director in charge of Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the local community and the essential work of the All Saint Food Bank is a perfect example of this.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building. Persimmon Homes Yorkshire makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to worthy causes.
