Kenny swaps city lights for Lydney

Kenny Jagroop has swapped the hustle and bustle of the London Underground for the quiet life in Gloucestershire.

Kenny recently retired after 30 years as a tube driver. Looking to downsize, he cast his net far and wide with a property search of anything within two hours of Slough.

He eventually settled on Persimmon’s Bishops Mead development in Lydney, which is where he now calls home with his wife Leila and his 27-year-old son.

“I didn’t have a clue about Lydney but the Mrs fell in love with the development so that’s where we’ve ended up,” said Kenny.

“We’re really happy here. We’re just 10 minutes out of town and the neighbours seem nice. The development is filling up now as more and more people move in, so it’s good.”

Kenny went for a two-bedroom end terrace Trafalgar style property.

“We’ve bought a new build before so I was comfortable with that,” he said. “It’s good because you get the guarantees and you know it won’t need much work for quite some time.

“The Persimmon team have been great, and the on-site team are fantastic. We’ve had no problems whatsoever.”

Persimmon is building 347 houses at Bishops Mead, where a new three-bedroom Chester style showhome has recently opened.

The development offers a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes in an ideal location on the southern outskirts of the town.
