Walking football club scores community cash

A walking football club for the over 55s has scored community funding from Persimmon Homes.

The Grimsby Ancient Mariners WFC has received £600 from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme and will use the funds for personal bibs for each club member.

Peter Cribb from Grimsby Ancient Mariners WFC, said: “We are very grateful for Persimmon Homes’ support as we take steps to restart our weekly sessions.

“We currently have 140 members, with an average age of 67 who have a wide range of disabilities and health concerns, but this never stops our members enthusiasm to get back on the pitch. The club has invested in a temperature gun, automatic hand sanitizers, gloves and masks to ensure not only compliance with legislation but to ensure the safety of our members.”

“We have recently restarted our sessions after introducing a range of safety measures in conjunction with our host, Lincs Inspire at the Bradley Centre and purchasing new equipment to help keep our members safe.”

“Each player will have their own personal bib and will start the season with their own dedicated safety equipment including extra goalkeepers’ gloves, and clothing so we can now focus on improving their fitness levels.”

Richard Hosie, director- in-charge for Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, said: “We are very pleased to be able to support the communities where we are building and delighted to help to get the Grimsby Ancient Mariners WFC back on the pitch.”

As part of the monthly Community Champions scheme, each of Persimmon Homes’ regional businesses choose two groups to benefit from a match-funded donation of up to £1,000 each.

Richard continued: “We encourage any good causes from across Lincolnshire to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
