An eco-habitat, designed to support and enhance biodiversity, has been installed at our Germany Beck development.

The NatureArk^® will provide a home for a wide range of invertebrates, bees, butterflies and small mammals such as hedgehogs at the Germany Beck site being created by our Yorkshire region.

Group sustainability manager, Philippa Bolton-Hadfield said: “The NatureArk is a cleverly-designed wooden structure which is planted with wildflowers to encourage a wide range of birds, bees and butterflies, as well as small mammals, amphibians and a wealth of insects and invertebrates, creating its own rich ecosystem.

“A team of ecologists will be monitoring the NatureArk over the coming months to measure and record what insects and animals are making it their home, and the unit will stay in place on the development so residents can enjoy seeing a wide range of nature.”

The NatureArk is just one of the sustainability measures being built into the Germany Beck site as part of Persimmon’s commitment to supporting the environment.

The unit has been supplied by professional ecologists BioScapes^® who specialise in innovative, multiple biodiversity habitats to help create health ecosystems. For more information visit www.bioscapes.co.uk

Biodiversity manager at BioScapes, Terry Smithson said: “In the midst of a climate and biodiversity crisis people are searching for ways to do their bit. NatureArk is a simple but effective unit to help bring wildlife into your garden. Its clever design will support a wide range of habitats supporting a wealth of plants and animals and making space to learn and be inspired by the natural world”.
