A Selby scout group has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes to help fund a new roof for its hut.
The Selby and District Scouts were awarded the funds from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support good causes and organisations from across the region.
The group is currently fundraising to replace the asbestos roof on its 1980s scout hut, estimated to cost in the region of £8,000.
Sean Hick of the Selby and District Scouts said: “Our scout hut is home for the local Beavers, Cubs Scouts and Ranger Guides group, the Scout and Guide band also use the building, as well as it being used for district meetings. ”
“The hut is well used, but the 1980s building needs to be upgraded. Replacing the asbestos roof will make the building much more thermally efficient, helping to reduce the groups’ fuel bills as well as making the space more functional.”
“We have already raised more than £5,000 so Persimmon Homes’ donation will help us to reach our fundraising target. We are very grateful.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building. Persimmon Homes Yorkshire makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to worthy causes.
Scott Waters, deputy managing director of Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “We are very pleased to support the amazing fundraising efforts of the Selby and District Scouts and hope they can begin work on their new roof very soon.”
