Wide range of causes benefit from community cash

Two Suffolk organisations have been selected to receive funding from Persimmon Homes, demonstrating the wide range of good causes supported by the company.

Suffolk Oxygen Therapy Centre and Leiston Football Club u18s were each awarded £1,000 through the Community Champions scheme, which aims to support grassroots organisations in the areas where Persimmon is building.

Ian Hamilton, managing director of Suffolk, said: “The essence of Community Champions is that it provides funds for small clubs, charities and voluntary groups who are making a real difference to the lives of local people. We are pleased to be able to help such worthwhile – and varied – organisations.”

Suffolk Oxygen Therapy Centre, based at Great Blakenham, provides high dose oxygen therapy to local people suffering from a range of chronic conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cancer or long Covid.

The registered charity is fundraising to create its own oxygen generation system, enabling it to deliver therapy to more people at a lower cost and reduce its carbon footprint.

Persimmon’s donation to Leiston FC will fund kit for the u18s team, ensuring the players are able to compete with pride this season. The club, which was founded in 1880, operates junior, youth and senior teams from its Victory Road ground, close to Buckton Place development.

Persimmon Suffolk, based in Great Blakenham, provides financial support for two local charities and good causes each month, through its Community Champions programme.

Ian Hamilton added: “There are so many amazing organisations helping to make a genuine difference to the people living in Suffolk, so we would encourage schools, sports clubs, small charities and voluntary groups to complete the simple online application form to be in with a chance of securing £1,000 of funding for their own projects.”
