Work set to start on former Bristol College site

Work is set to start on 75 new homes on a former Bristol College site, after the developer behind the scheme completed the purchase of the land.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has purchased the land in Lawrence Weston from Bristol City Council and Bristol College.

The leading housebuilder is now planning to start work on the 75 properties in the coming weeks, with the first homes released for sale early summer.

The development, which will be marketed as Moorland Grove, will also bring almost £435,000 worth of community benefits to the area, as well as 230 jobs*.

Paul Moody, director in charge of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We are delighted to have finalised the acquisition of this site.

“There is a real and urgent requirement for good quality, affordable homes in the Bristol area and it’s important that sites like this can be developed to help meet that need.

“This will be an attractive development in a desirable location and we look forward to starting work shortly.”

As part of the development, Persimmon Homes will make significant investments into the local area through Section 106 agreements, including £20,000 towards cycle improvements, £12,640 towards the implementation of two traffic regulation orders, and more than £10,000 towards the implementation of the Residential Travel Plan.

The company will also invest £35,000 towards off-site planting of replacement trees, as well as making a £60,000 contribution towards self-build opportunities for local people and/or community-led developers.

Furthermore, Persimmon Homes will also provide £295,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy contributions to Bristol City Council which will go toward local infrastructure improvements.

And Moorland Grove will also embrace sustainable technologies with air source heat pumps, which absorb heat from the outside air to heat the property and hot water, installed in every home.

Residents will soon be able to register their interest in the properties so they are kept up-to-date with progress.
