A charity supporting disabled people across Scotland has received a cash boost from a leading housebuilder.
Lead Scotland was awarded £1,000 this month as part of the Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding initiative seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.
Lead Scotland provides personalised learning and befriending support for disabled people and unpaid carers over the age of 16 who may be experiencing barriers to learning, volunteering, employment and community involvement. They also run Scotland’s only national helpline for disabled people and carers looking for guidance on adult learning and education.
The charity had to adapt its approach during the pandemic offering online learning and extra online and telephone befriending support for people feeling isolated.
Sibyl Adam, at Lead Scotland, said: “We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Persimmon Homes.
“We plan to use the money to help fund our Adult Learning Project that is currently facing high demand from disabled people and unpaid carers keen to get back into learning so they can improve their skills and possibly transition into employment or formal education such as college and university.”
Chris Logan, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “Supporting charities in the communities in which we build is very important to us.
“We are thrilled to offer our support to Lead Scotland, the charity provides a valuable service in the local community that makes a real difference.
“We wish the charity all the best for the future and look forward to seeing the exceptional work they do for the community continue.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the county have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
