Pontarddulais RFC juniors boosted by support from West Wales

Pontarddulais RFC’s junior section has received a funding boost from West Wales region.

The club has received a £1,000 donation from West Wales, which will support the club’s U10 and U11 teams in the coming months and with fundraising for their end-of-season tour.

The teams will be attending Butlins, Minehead in April for the ‘Tigers Challenge’, a professionally organised rugby festival for teams across Britain, organised by Leicester Tigers.

The donation comes through our Community Champions scheme, which supports good causes in the areas in which we are building, with up to £4,000 donated each month across Wales.

Commenting on the donation, Mark Davies, coach of Pontarddulais RFC U10s, said:

“We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes West Wales for this outstanding support.

“Pontarddulais RFC U10s and U11s are currently raising funds for an end of season tour, and in difficult times for many, this £1,000 will go a long way to help us fulfil our aims.

“We have a squad full of enthusiastic young players who love the game and are chomping at the bit to challenge themselves out of their local surroundings.

“The children are thrilled by this donation and at the prospect of a tour, which will be their very first due to the pandemic, and we’d like to thank the Penllergaer-based Persimmon Homes for their fantastic generosity.”

Persimmon Homes West Wales sales director, Sharon Bouhali, said:

“Persimmon has a proud history and ongoing presence in Pontarddulais, and we are delighted to support the town’s junior rugby section.

“These clubs are often the backbone of our communities, and it’s no different in Pontarddulais, which benefits from a number of successful teams in a variety of sports.

“The pandemic was a challenging period for many people, and particularly for young children who lost out on many experiences such as going on tour through the ‘Tigers Challenge’.

“Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative is all about supporting the communities and people where we build, and we are delighted to help this talented group of young players with something they love.”
