Sunderland special needs school Portland Academy, part of the Ascent Academies’ trust, is set to benefit from a £1,000 donation from our Community Champions fund.
The school is currently fundraising to purchase special outdoor gym equipment and applied to the scheme, which was established to provide financial assistance to local charities, organisations and good causes.
Sophie Docherty from Portland Academy explains: “Our students have a variety of complex educational and medical needs and we want this special gym equipment to enhance our existing outdoor area and promote good physical and mental health. It will undoubtedly make a big difference to our student’s lives.
“Like many other charities and good causes, our fund raising activities have been hit hard over the last few years due to the pandemic and we are really grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation that will go a long way to helping us purchase the equipment we need.”
Richard Cook, managing director for Persimmon Homes Durham, added: “We are delighted to be able to help Portland Academy with this donation to help them get the outdoor gym they seek. The scheme was set up to help good local causes such as this and it is what Community Champions is all about.
“It is important that regional charities, organisations and good causes of all types keep applying to Community Champions for funding, even if they’ve tried before and not been successful. It is very easy to apply online and they could easily become next month’s beneficiary.”
Good causes and charities can apply for a donation by completing an online form.
