Weston disability charity bags funding

A Weston-super-Mare charity which fights for the rights of people with learning disabilities has been boosted by a £800 donation.

North Somerset People First has secured the funding through our Community Champions scheme.

Each month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK.

North Somerset People First is a small charity which advocates for the rights and entitlements of adults with learning disabilities and autism across the county.

Michelle Burnett, Chief Executive Officer of the charity, said: “We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for this wonderful donation.

“Our mission is to support individuals to speak up for themselves, empowering them to be more in control of their own lives.

“We provide a range of services for people with learning disabilities, difficulties and/or autism including speaking up forums, peer support groups, mental health and emotional wellbeing service, advocacy, supported paid employment and work experience.

“We are aiming to raise £10,000 to help us recruit and train further volunteers so that we can provide the vital support required to help individuals in great need.

“This money takes us closer to that target.”

Carly Spear, Sales Director at Severn Valley, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support North Somerset People First with this money.

“It’s important that groups like this exist to help people find their voice in society.

“It’s a privilege to be able to be involved and support people in the areas in which we are building.”

We are currently building stunning new homes at The Sandcastle, part of the Haywood Village development.
