Wessex region supports 107-year-old Malmesbury Carnival with £1,000 donation

This summer’s Malmesbury Carnival has received a cheque for £1,000 as part of Persimmon Homes Wessex’s Community Champions scheme.

The Carnival, which has been running since 1917, consists of a series of events throughout August including live music, food and drink stalls, children's activities, and the famous Parade.

Malmesbury Carnival relies solely on the support of local volunteers, bringing local villages together to raise thousands of pounds for local causes every year.

In Malmesbury, the Carnival has supported: Malmesbury School and St Josephs Primary; Abbey Little Stars baby and toddler; the Library; HEALS; sports clubs including Marlins and Tennis; Athelstan Players, and Museum; film and history societies; beaver, guide and scout groups. Plus, many more local causes from across the surrounding villages!

The Community Champions scheme by Persimmon Homes Wessex donates £24,000 each year to community organisations and good causes in the areas it develops.

Malmesbury Carnival Co-Chair Paul Overton, thanked Persimmon for the donation and commented:

“Thank you to Persimmon Homes for its generous donation. £1,000 will support our events throughout August which raised over £23,000 for local causes last year.

“Malmesbury Carnival relies solely on the hard work of our dedicated team of volunteers who do a fantastic job every year.

“So, Persimmon’s donation will once again help the Carnival to hold a very successful and enjoyable event this summer, supporting the local community and bringing local residents together.

“On behalf of Malmesbury Carnival and the local community, we are all very grateful for Persimmon’s continued support. Thank you!”

Pauline Fletcher, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, commented:

“Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting local causes that make a difference across the local community. Malmesbury Carnival has been doing just that for over 100 years.

“Our mission at Persimmon is to leave a positive and lasting legacy in the communities where we build so I’m delighted we’re able to support the Carnival with their ongoing community events and fundraising.”

Persimmon currently has one active development in Malmesbury. Quality new homes are available at Backbridge Farm with prices ranging from £259,995 to £479,995.
